About the Engine Block
Also known as the cylinder block, this cast iron or aluminium piece forms a substantial amount of the engine. It is basically the engine's body. It's main, or rather, most apparent, feature is the cylinder holes at the top which continue straight through the block. The amount of holes varies between manufacturers, but the most typical amount is either four or six. The holes house the cylinders and pistons.
